"Why so impatient, my heart?" One of the most pastoral of Kabir's songs. God has tended to birds, beasts, insects, and tended to you in your mother's womb. Why now, exactly, would He stop? This is the same theology Jesus taught with the lilies of the field and the birds of the air in Matthew 6 — God's care is pre-verbal. The scolding is gentle. You have turned from the smile of your Lord. You are thinking of lesser things. That is why your work is fruitless — not as punishment, but as consequence of where your attention is.Matthew 6:25-34.
Notice the structure of the argument. God has already cared for birds, beasts, insects, the unborn you. On what basis would He stop now? This is the Matthew 6 lilies-of-the-field argument in an Indian register, and it has a specific logical shape: the pattern of care is continuous; the only thing that changes is the one who forgets to notice it.
