1.MY child Methosalam, summon all thy brethren and our household and the elders of the people, that I may talk to them and depart, as is planned for me.’

Asked of Guide

Why does Enoch call his family and elders together before he departs?

Enoch assembles Methuselah, his brothers, and the elders to speak final instructions and to bless them, framing his departure as a planned, purposeful act: “that I may talk to them and depart, as is planned for me.” He treats departure as an event that requires communal witness and moral transmission.

This chapter functions like a farewell testament, similar to patriarchal speeches in Genesis where a leader gathers kin to bless and direct the community before leaving. The scene emphasizes continuity—Enoch hands responsibility to the next generation through blessing and counsel.
