Secrets of Enoch: Chapter IV

Of the Angels ruling the stars.

THEY brought before my face the elders and rulers of the stellar orders, and showed me two hundred angels, who rule the stars and their services to the heavens, and fly with their wings and come round all those who sail.

Asked of Guide

Why does Enoch see two hundred angels ruling the stars?

Enoch is shown a heavenly hierarchy: “two hundred angels” stand as the elders and rulers overseeing the stellar orders, each assigned to govern the stars and their services. The chapter registers cosmic order through named function—angels who “fly with their wings and come round all those who sail”—emphasizing guardianship and regulated movement of celestial bodies.

This vision fits the book’s broader program of mapping hidden administration of the world, like the lists in earlier chapters that enumerate watchers and their duties. Compare 1 Enoch’s astronomical sections, which likewise give numbers and offices to angelic beings to explain the cosmos’ regularity.
